PUMA and A$AP Rocky are adding a new silhouette to their run together with the Straycat, a rugged low that pulls from the motorsport theme the two have been building for years.

PUMA‘s history with racing runs deep. The brand has outfitted drivers and teams across motorsport for decades, and Rocky’s role as Creative Director of PUMA’s Formula 1 partnership put that connection at the center of his work with the brand. His earlier PUMA projects, the Mostro and the Inhale in particular, leaned on industrial and racing references without ever quite becoming a driving shoe.
The Straycat goes further in that direction. It is built around a Vibram outsole that climbs up onto the upper, a treatment similar to what Rocky used on the Mostro. Hardened mesh wraps the collar, the Formstrips are distressed to look worn in, and a double-lace system gives the shoe a busier profile than most of his earlier releases. The packaging follows the theme with custom boxing and a dust bag covered in vintage car graphics.
This shows Rocky is done reworking existing PUMA silhouettes and wants his own shape in the line. That is a different level of commitment from both sides, and it puts real pressure on the Straycat to land with people who buy PUMA for reasons other than the name attached to it.
