Jordan Brand brings back one of its most under-the-radar packs with the Air Jordan 9 Retro Low What The Kilroy, a single low-top that folds the entire 2012 Kilroy collection into one pair.

The What The concept started on a heavily limited Nike SB Dunk Low that stitched together dozens of past colorways on one asymmetric pair. It has since spread to the Kobe line, the Book 1, and more, and now it reaches the Air Jordan 9. The reference point here is the 2012 Kilroy pack, itself built around the 1993 Johnny Kilroy ad campaign that starred Steve Martin and joked that a disguised Michael Jordan was secretly back with the Bulls. That original run featured six colorways, each named after one of Jordan’s fake personas. This What The pair pulls all six into a single mismatched low, with red leather on one shoe and black nubuck on the other, midsoles switching from orange to white and outsoles going from yellow to white.
The Air Jordan 9 rarely gets this kind of spotlight, so leaning on a storytelling gimmick is how Jordan Brand gives a quieter model a reason to exist in the retro calendar. That signals the brand knows its deep cuts need a hook to move, and few hooks are stronger than a What The build aimed straight at longtime collectors.
