Why becausesneakers

Most mornings start the same way. I open one site to see what released, another to see what’s coming, a third because the first two missed something, and then I work through the retail shops, because the boutiques get pairs the big sites never mention. Twenty minutes later I have a dozen tabs open and a nagging feeling that I still missed something.

I’m Nick Engvall, and becausesneakers is the place I wanted those mornings to end at. I have been doing some version of that dozen-tab routine for twenty years, and it never stopped feeling backwards.

The information is all out there. What dropped today. What’s coming next month. What’s sitting on a shelf at a shop in Pittsburgh right now that nobody bothered to write about. The news was never the problem. The problem was that it lived in a dozen places, and staying current meant checking all of them, every day, and still hoping you caught the thing that mattered.

becausesneakers started as a selfish fix. I wanted one place. Not a site that covered one brand loudly and shrugged at the rest. Not a site that only chased the hyped releases everyone already knew about. A place that paid attention to all of it, across every brand, the way I would if I had the hours to sit there refreshing those dozen tabs myself.

So that is what this is. One place for what’s new, what’s coming, and what’s available right now.

What’s new, as it happens, across the whole sport and not just the loudest corner of it. What’s coming, laid out on a calendar so you can plan for a release instead of finding out you missed it. And what’s available right now, including the pairs that quietly land at a boutique and sell out before the bigger sites even notice they existed.

I’m building it in the open. That means it gets better every week, and it also means you’ll catch me sharpening things as I go. I would rather start now and improve it in public than sit on it until it feels finished and never actually ship.

If you have ever closed that last tab wondering whether you missed something, this is for you. That exact feeling is the whole reason it exists.
