The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the biggest the sport has ever staged, and for the first time in a generation it is happening on home soil, with the United States hosting the bulk of a 48-team tournament alongside Canada and Mexico. The last men’s World Cup on US ground, in 1994, is the event that convinced Nike to take football seriously and led to the Mercurial.
