Samba Releases

The latest Samba sneaker releases, with release dates, prices, style codes, and where to buy every pair. Updated daily as new drops are announced.

The Samba was built for playing football on frozen ground, and it took seventy years to become a fashion object.

adidas designed the original in 1950, and the story adidas tells is that the shoe earned its name on icy pitches in Germany. The version everyone actually wears is younger than that. The Samba as it exists today, with the shape and the outsole people recognise, dates to a 1972 redesign, and that is the shoe that has been in continuous production ever since.

Every decision on it was functional. The low profile was about ball feel, the T-toe overlay protected the part of the shoe that wears out first, and the outsole was built for grip on surfaces that offer none. Nothing on it was styling, which is the reason the shape has aged as well as it has.

For most of its life it lived in three places at once: on pitches, on terraces in Britain, and in indoor sport. It was cheap, permanently available, and worn by a certain kind of person whether or not adidas promoted it, which for long stretches it did not.

The recent run changed that. Between roughly 2022 and 2024 the Samba went from quiet staple to the most visible sneaker in fashion, helped by a handful of very public wearers and by a wider move toward low, slim silhouettes after a decade of bulk. adidas answered with volume, collaborations and colorway after colorway, which is the standard sequence and has the standard ending.

The interesting question is what it settles into. The Samba has a floor most trend shoes do not, because the people who wore it before the boom never left. It will probably go back to being a permanent, unremarkable, quietly excellent shoe, which is what it was built to be.

This page tracks every Samba we cover, with release dates, retail prices, style codes, and where to buy, plus the material details that separate one pair from the next once the colorway stops being the story.
