Converse is building out Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s first signature line, and the Converse Shai 001 Lace Up Berry adds a bold new color to the rollout. It carries the style code A24323C and lands as one of the brighter pairs in the range so far.
The Shai 001 matters because it is a real signature basketball shoe from Converse, a brand that has spent decades trading on its heritage rather than its on-court presence. Signing Gilgeous-Alexander, one of the best guards in the league, gave Converse a reason to build a modern performance shoe again. The 001 is the result, offered in both a lace-up build and a strap version, with the lace-up reading as the cleaner, more classic of the two.
This Berry makeup goes all in on a single saturated tone, covering the upper in a deep pink-purple that stands out against the usual black and white basketball palette. To me this proves Converse understands that a first signature line needs colorways with personality, not just team-friendly neutrals.
The $120 price also keeps it accessible, which matters for a shoe trying to win over players who grew up on Nike and Jordan hoop models. Converse does not need the Shai line to outsell those overnight. It needs the shoe to feel credible and worth talking about, and a full Berry colorway does that work.
