Jordan Brand is putting New York on the Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG again with “Last Dance at the Garden,” a black, varsity red and white pair arriving at the end of September.
The Air Jordan 1 has been the brand’s most reliable canvas since 1985, and the low OG cut has quietly become the version that does the heavy lifting on story-driven releases. It takes color blocking well, it prices lower than the high, and it moves in family sizing. That combination has made it the default when Jordan Brand wants to say something specific about a city.
The reference point here is March 1998, when Michael Jordan played what he expected to be his final game at Madison Square Garden wearing the Chicago Air Jordan 1 alongside the black Bulls alternate uniform. This pair keeps that Chicago color blocking intact but swaps the palette toward white and black, and in place of the red leather piping there is a floral tapestry treatment. Orange and blue accents on the lace stay handle the Garden nod.
To me this proves the AJ1 Low OG is now Jordan Brand’s city shoe, the place where local history gets told without committing a full retro slot to it. New York gets a version nearly every year, and this one arrives with the Knicks holding a title, which is not a coincidence. It is aimed at the buyer who wants the reference more than the resale.
