Jordan Brand is putting a tennis story on the Air Jordan 7 with the Tennis Day colorway, a Phantom-based pair built around the US Open.
The Air Jordan 7 arrived in 1992 as Tinker Hatfield’s fourth Jordan design, and it dropped the visible Air window and the Nike Air branding in favor of a neoprene inner sleeve borrowed from the Huarache. Michael Jordan wore it through the 1992 Finals and the Barcelona Olympics, which is why the Olympic and Bordeaux colorways still carry the model’s identity.
The tennis connection is not arbitrary. Hatfield also designed several of Andre Agassi’s best-known Nike models, including the Air Tech Challenge line, and this colorway pulls from that palette. Phantom leather covers most of the upper with open mesh at the sides and forefoot, shaggy suede at the ankle, and translucent cutouts. Lemon Twist outlines the midsole, collar, tongue, and lining while Pink Blast lands on the heel tabs and outsole.
The Air Jordan 7 has been mostly out of Jordan Brand’s regular retro rotation for years, well behind the 1, 4, 5, and 11. This proves the brand is finally willing to spend a real concept on the model rather than treating it as filler. Whether that continues depends on how this one sells.
