Nike‘s Kobe Air Force 1 Low in White and Armory Blue has been on shelves since September 1, 2026, and the story attached to it across most coverage, including the earlier version of this post, does not hold. The blue is not a Minneapolis Lakers reference. Nike says nothing about the Lakers, Los Angeles or Minneapolis anywhere on the shoe’s own page. What Nike does say is that the embroidered number and emblem on the heel pay homage to Kobe Bryant’s alma mater, which points to a high school gym in Pennsylvania rather than a franchise.
The silhouette underneath is the most familiar one Nike makes. Nike’s own Air Force 1 history page puts the release in late October 1982, credits Bruce Kilgore, and explains that he took the lowered back heel from Nike’s Approach hiking boot. Nike’s stated performance claim is specific: the shoe cushioned shock thirty percent better and was twenty percent more resilient than a standard shoe of its day. The lifestyle crossover came from late 1985 through the Shoe of the Month program at select retailers. Two things the earlier version of this post said that Nike does not: Nike’s history page never calls the Air Force 1 the first basketball shoe with Nike Air, and Nike did not launch in the 1970s. The company was founded in January 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports. The Nike name and Carolyn Davidson’s Swoosh arrived in 1971, which is a decade of difference and the kind of detail a site about sneakers should get right.

On this pair, style code IB0018-103, Nike’s Colour Shown is simply White/Armory Blue. Nike describes it as infused with Mamba DNA, pointing at the allover snakeskin print, and its spec bullets list a synthetic leather upper with a perforated toe box, a Nike Air unit, a padded collar, a foam midsole and a rubber outsole with what Nike calls heritage hoops pivot circles. Read that bullet list carefully, because it settles two things. This is a plain Nike Air unit, so the shoe is not a Protro and carries no ReactX drop-in. And the heel detail is not the 8 and 24 that Tier 2 coverage reported. Nike’s own words are alma mater, and Bryant wore 33 at Lower Merion. The same IB0018 run includes a Lower Merion Aces pack, which is about as direct a corroboration as Nike gives.
Armory Blue is worth one more sentence, because the Lakers claim keeps travelling. It is a stock name in Nike’s colour palette, used across Dunks and Air Force 1s that have nothing to do with basketball in Los Angeles, and the Minneapolis Lakers wore powder blue with gold, not a muted slate. Purple and gold did not arrive until 1967. The shade may resemble the old uniforms to your eye, and that is a reader’s observation to make, not a fact to print. What the shoe does carry honestly is Bryant himself: twenty seasons, all with one franchise, five championships, eighteen All-Star selections, 33,643 career points that now sit fourth all-time after LeBron James passed him on January 25, 2020, and a 60-point last game on April 13, 2016. Nike’s licence to tell that story lapsed on April 13, 2021, exactly five years after that game, and a new long-term deal with the estate was announced on March 24, 2022.

Retail is $125, which is ten dollars over a standard Air Force 1 ’07 at $115 and a long way under the rest of the Kobe shelf. Nike’s Kobe Protro performance models run $190 to $210 through 2026, and even the Kobe Air Force 1 Low Protro, the version with the ReactX drop-in, sits at $150. The twenty-five dollar gap between that shoe and this one is the cushioning, plainly stated in Nike’s own bullets. A grade-school size run exists at $100. That makes this the cheapest way into Kobe-branded footwear at retail, which is presumably the point of a line running at roughly one release a month.

The Kobe Air Force 1 Low in White/Armory Blue, IB0018-103, released September 1, 2026 at $125 and is still listed at Nike.com with a full size run from men’s 6 through 15. The earlier version of this post said no style code or retailer had been confirmed, which was not true on the day it published.
