BAPE Adds a Mary Jane Strap to the STA, in Pink and Silver

BAPE has put a strap on the STA. The Mary Jane STA landed on the BAPE web store on Friday, June 26, 2026, with authorized retailers following the next day, in two colorways the brand names simply as Pink and Silver. It is the first Mary Jane BAPE has built on its own house silhouette, and it arrives in the same year the brand is marketing the STA’s twenty-fifth anniversary, which makes the timing look deliberate rather than incidental.

The STA’s own origin is less settled than its reputation. BAPE says on its Japanese and American pages that the shoe was born in 2000. Its European site hedges to the early 2000s, and the twenty-fifth anniversary the brand is running through 2026 back-calculates to 2001. The brand disagrees with itself, and anyone writing a clean origin year is choosing one of BAPE’s three answers. What is not in dispute is where the shape came from. Nike filed suit against BAPE’s US arm in the Southern District of New York on January 25, 2023, over Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1 and Dunk trade dress. Judge Paul Gardephe denied BAPE’s motion to dismiss on March 4, 2024, holding that Nike’s registrations adequately articulated the scope of the asserted trade dress. The parties settled on April 30, 2024, with BAPE agreeing to stop selling some of the shoes and redesign others. No damages figure was made public. Every STA released since has come out under that settlement.

BAPE’s own product code for this pair is 1M30-291-324, and BAPE’s own colour line reads Pink and Silver. The earlier version of this post called one of them Metallic Grey, a name that came from outlet coverage rather than from the brand, and it is corrected here. The naming gets stranger from there: BAPE’s international store carries the identical shoe as A BATHING APE Shark STA Mary Jane #1 under a completely different code, 0ZXSHW324912Q, where it is now sold out. Two official names and two official codes for one shoe. On the shoe itself, the star-shaped STA mark sits on the side panel, in the position a Swoosh would occupy, not on the toe box, and BAPE uses no lightning-bolt language for any element on it. Both of those details were wrong in the earlier version of this post. The strap is the real change. A closed instep and an ankle strap shift the STA’s proportions in a way no colorway can.

Women’s BAPE footwear is not new. The ladies’ SK8 STA arrived in May 2024 at the same yen price this shoe carries, and BAPE has run rhinestone and glitter STA Ladies makeups alongside it. What is new is a silhouette built for that customer rather than a colorway aimed at her, and the timing lines up with the Mary Jane’s broader return across footwear. It is also worth knowing who is making this call. Hong Kong’s I.T bought ninety percent of BAPE’s parent company in a deal announced in February 2011, and since June 2021 CVC Capital Partners has held co-control following I.T’s privatization. Nigo, whose real name is Tomoaki Nagao, stepped away in 2013. The BAPE expanding a women’s line in 2026 is a private-equity-backed brand with a global store network, not the operation that opened the shared Nowhere shop in Harajuku with Jun Takahashi in 1993.

BAPE lists the Mary Jane STA at 31,900 yen including tax on its own Japanese page. No BAPE-owned American page carries a dollar figure, and the US product URL now returns a 404, so the widely repeated $325 rests on a single outlet. That number is at least consistent with the rest of the shelf: BAPE’s own US store has the BAPE STA #3 at $325, the SK8 STA #1 at $335 and the SHARK STA #2 at $359. One outlet published $88.80, which is out of line with every BAPE shoe the brand sells and should be read as an error. Note also that 31,900 yen does not arithmetically convert to $325. BAPE’s American pricing is a separate decision, not an exchange rate.

BAPE Mary Jane STA

The BAPE Mary Jane STA released on the BAPE web store at 12:00 JST on Friday, June 26, 2026, and at A BATHING APE authorized retailers from Saturday, June 27. Product code 1M30-291-324, in Pink and Silver, at 31,900 yen including tax in Japan and reported at $325 in the United States. BAPE’s international store listed it as Shark STA Mary Jane #1 and has since sold out. Note the year: this post previously carried a 2025 release date, which was wrong.
