Jordan Brand’s 30th anniversary Space Jam collection arrives November 5, and the press release that introduced it walks through five Air Jordan 11 designs, the Air Jordan 3 Retro, two Air Jordan 1 Lows and the Jordan First 1. The Jordan Spizike Low “Jam Central” is not on that list. It is on nike.com instead, in black, green, royal blue and orange, with an orange Hare Jumpman stitched to the tongue, and it is the most interesting shoe in the drop for a reason the announcement never reaches.
The Spizike is Jordan Brand’s collage shoe. It arrived in 2006 as a tribute to Spike Lee, whose Mars Blackmon character came out of She’s Gotta Have It in 1986 and then into the 1988 Nike commercials built around “It’s gotta be the shoes.” Instead of retroing one model, the design pulled pieces off several and stitched them into a single upper, which was an odd thing for the brand to do then and is still rare now.
How many models it borrows from has never been settled. Nike’s own product copy says the Spizike “takes elements of five classic Jordans” and then declines to name them. The number used everywhere else is six, with the Air Jordan 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 20 listed out. The brand has never published its own list, so a shoe twenty years old is still being described by people counting panels, and the official copy and the received wisdom do not agree with each other. The Low is the trimmed version of the same idea, closer to a lifestyle shoe, with the patchwork logic left intact.
On this pair the patchwork is doing something it has not done before. Nike lists a leather and synthetic leather upper over a foam midsole and rubber outsole, with Nike Air cushioning and a pull tab at the heel. The photographs show black leather broken by four separate colors: a bright green mesh panel through the midfoot, a royal blue molded lace cage shaped like the wing the Air Jordan 4 made famous, atomic orange eyestays carrying orange and black laces, and a green translucent outsole with blue and orange zones showing through it. The Hare Jumpman sits on the tongue in orange, the rabbit in Jordan’s silhouette rather than Jordan himself, and Nike names that detail directly in its copy. The listed colorway is Black, Green Strike, Racer Blue and Atomic Orange, which is the Monstars palette run through a basketball shoe rather than a cartoon. The box is black with the Space Jam wordmark in yellow green and the collection’s artwork printed inside the lid.

Leaving the Spizike off the release list is the detail that says the most. The anniversary is built around the Air Jordan 11, which is the right call, because the 11 is the shoe in the film and five versions of it lead the collection. The quotes in the press materials go to the Retro OG and the women’s “Magic Ball.” The Spizike is the one piece in the drop whose logic matches the thing being celebrated. Space Jam was a film built out of a commercial that was built out of a cartoon, and the Spizike is a shoe built out of other shoes. A remix inside a remix is a better anniversary argument than a near-replica, and it got no paragraph at all. There is commercial logic underneath that. The 11 carries the collection, and the Spizike has spent most of the last decade as a model Jordan Brand brings back quietly and then shelves again. A Space Jam tie is the strongest reason to buy one in years, and the brand buried it.

At $165 the Spizike Low is the most expensive of the three non-retro shoes in the collection, ahead of the Jordan Triangle at $150 and the Jordan Trunner O/S at $130, and above the Air Jordan 1 Low SE “Magic Ball” at $130. That order tracks the build, since the Spizike carries leather, a molded cage and Nike Air where the other two run foam and mesh. Resale is the open question. This is a general release with a full kids run down to toddler sizing, which is not how Jordan Brand prices scarcity, so the reasonable expectation is a pair that sits at retail for a while rather than one that moves on the morning.

The Jordan Spizike Low “Jam Central” is listed for November 5 at nike.com and on SNKRS under style code IX6381-001, in men’s sizing at $165. Big kids, little kids and toddler versions carry IX6399-001, IX6401-001 and IX6402-001. The colorway is listed as Black, Green Strike, Racer Blue and Atomic Orange. Jordan Brand’s release puts the whole collection on November 5 without breaking out individual dates, so that is the collection’s date rather than a confirmed date for this pair, and nike.com is the only stockist named for it so far.
