Nike is putting the FC Barcelona and Kobe Bryant partnership on the Dunk Low Protro, arriving in a Black and Field Purple colorway that follows the club’s Kobe 4 and matching kit collection from 2025.
The base is black, with smooth leather through most of the upper and patent leather wrapping the toe, eyestays, and heel. Field Purple lands on the Swoosh, the heel strip, and the translucent outsole, with small gold hits keeping the pair from reading as all black. One tongue carries Kobe’s Sheath logo, the other carries the FC Barcelona crest, both in gold. His signature is stitched at the back of each shoe and the Sheath logo repeats on the insoles.
The Dunk started in 1985 as a college basketball shoe built on tooling borrowed from the Air Jordan 1 and the Terminator, found a second life in skateboarding, and eventually became the most produced sneaker in Nike‘s lineup. The Protro treatment updates the interior for actual play. Kobe’s connection to soccer traces back to his childhood in Italy, and it showed up in his product long before this, most obviously on the Mambacurial Kobe 8.
This shows Nike has figured out how to keep the Kobe line moving without leaning entirely on signature retros. A Dunk Low costs less to make than a Protro flagship, sells into a much wider room, and still gives the estate a story worth telling.
