The Jordan Triangle “Space Jam” Dresses Jordan Brand’s Newest Performance Shoe as the Air Jordan 11

The Jordan Triangle "Space Jam" Dresses Jordan Brand’s Newest Performance Shoe as the Air Jordan 11

Jordan Brand’s Space Jam collection leads with five Air Jordan 11 designs, and then hands the 11’s whole visual language to a shoe that is four months old. The Jordan Triangle “Space Jam” arrives November 5 in Football Grey, Black, Aluminum and Chrome, with a glossy dark wrap over a white quarter and a translucent icy outsole under it. Nothing printed on the shoe says Space Jam. That restraint is the most interesting decision in the collection.

The Triangle is the newest thing in Jordan Brand’s basketball line. The debut colorway went up July 2 this year, which makes this anniversary colorway one of the first things the model has done since launch. Nike’s own page for it explains the name, which comes from the Triangle Offense that Phil Jackson ran, and sets out the build: ZoomX along the length of the sole, Cushlon 3.0 in the heel, an injection-molded shank plate, and a carbon fiber mesh and leather upper with a toe overlay to hold the shape. The brand describes the target player as explosive and above the rim, wanting to use a vertical leap as a threat at all three levels.

No athlete is attached to it on that page, which matters for how to read this pair. The Triangle is a team shoe rather than a signature, the kind of model that normally earns its colorways from college programs and rotation players. Handing it the anniversary of the brand’s most famous shoe is a promotion. It also tells you where Jordan Brand expects its basketball volume to come from, since a team model at this price reaches far more feet in a season than a signature line does, and a collection this visible is an efficient way to introduce one.

What the photographs show is an Air Jordan 11 argument made in different materials. A glossy near-black panel wraps the lace area and the mudguard, mottled rather than flat, and it reads at a glance the way patent leather reads on an 11. Above it the quarter is a pale woven texture flecked with black speckles. A chrome Jumpman sits on a black tongue. Underneath, the outsole is translucent with a blue cast, which is the icy sole the 11 has carried since 1995. Seen without the box, the whole shoe reads as a quiet reference rather than a costume. The brand’s own copy is not fully consistent about what the upper is. The Space Jam product page calls it a durable carbon fiber mesh upper in one paragraph and lightweight polyester mesh in the benefits list directly below, and it adds Zoom Air to the cushioning stack that the model’s own page describes as ZoomX and Cushlon 3.0. Both versions come from Nike, so neither gets asserted here over the other.

The read is that this is the only shoe in the collection a person could actually play in, and Jordan Brand chose to style it after the shoe nobody plays in anymore. Five Air Jordan 11 retros carry the anniversary as collectibles. The Triangle takes the same glossy wrap, white upper, chrome and icy sole and puts them on a current performance build, which is the closest thing to arguing that the 11’s look was always a basketball idea and not a display idea.

The cost of that restraint is real though. The Spizike Low “Jam Central” carries an orange Hare Jumpman on the tongue and a green translucent outsole. The Trunner O/S “Space Jam Planet” puts the same rabbit on the heel. The Triangle gets the collection’s box and almost nothing on the shoe, so a buyer who does not already know will read this as a clean grey and black basketball shoe. Whether that is tasteful or a missed opportunity depends on how much of this collection a person wants visible from across a room.

At $150 the pricing is the sharp part. Nike lists the Triangle’s debut colorway at a full price of $145, and nike.com currently has that pair marked down to roughly $117. So the Space Jam version asks more than the model launched at, and meaningfully more than what the shoe sells for today, three months into its first year. Inside the collection it sits above the Trunner O/S and the Air Jordan 1 Low SE “Magic Ball” at $130 each and below the Spizike Low at $165. The premium here is being charged for the box and the colorway rather than for anything in the build.

The Jordan Triangle “Space Jam” is listed for November 5 at nike.com and on SNKRS under style code JA0941-001, at $150. The listed colorway is Football Grey, Black, Aluminum and Chrome. Jordan Brand’s release dates the whole collection to November 5 without breaking out individual shoes, so that is the collection’s date rather than a confirmed date for this pair, and the Triangle is not named in the release at all.
