New Balance opens its 2026 TCS New York City Marathon collection on Thursday, September 10, and the piece worth arguing about is the SuperComp Elite v6 in Satsuma Orange with Streamsong. This is the race-day shoe of the brand that holds the New York Road Runners contract. It carries official marathon branding on the tongue and the word NYC across the heel, and New Balance is charging $289.99 for it. That is $15 more than the same shoe without the graphics.

The SuperComp Elite is New Balance’s top racer, and the brand says so plainly on its own product page, calling it the best race day shoe it makes. Six versions in, the formula is settled. A carbon fiber plate, a stack of foam tall enough to do the work, and an upper thin enough that it stops registering somewhere around mile three. What changes from version to version is the tuning. The v6 runs on Infinion, the new foam New Balance put under this generation, and the plate has been reshaped so it sits thicker and stiffer toward the front of the foot, which is exactly where a marathoner is still fighting for turnover at mile 22. The men’s pair weighs 193 grams, or 6.8 ounces. The upper is a translucent mesh built with FANTOMFIT, the bonded overlay system New Balance uses to get structure without a second layer of material, and the outsole is deliberately thin. None of that is unusual for the category in 2026. It sits several tiers above what the FuelCell Rebel v5 is built to do, and it is priced like it.

The colorway is the entire reason this pair exists at a separate price. New Balance calls it Satsuma Orange with Streamsong, which in practice reads as a saturated marathon yellow across the translucent mesh, set against a navy heel counter, navy laces and a teal-to-blue gradient inside the N. The heel panel carries NYC in yellow block letters on the navy. The tongue label is navy with the TCS New York City Marathon lockup and the race’s runner mark in white. The midsole is a lighter yellow with a scalloped cut through the sidewall and an open window at the heel, and the forefoot underside shifts to grey over a pale blue outsole. Infinion is printed along the midsole in blue, FANTOMFIT sits near the heel on the inside, and neither is subtle. New Balance made no attempt to tone this down, which is the correct call for a shoe designed to be seen from a curb in Bay Ridge.

The more interesting part is not the shoe, it is the calendar. New Balance is not releasing one New York pair, it is releasing three waves. September 10 is the main collection. October 8 brings a Finisher collection for the people who actually run it. October 29 through 31 brings a Five-Borough collection sold only at the expo, tied to the 50th year of the course that covers all five boroughs. That is a sponsorship being merchandised across two months rather than a shoe being dropped, and it is what a title contract buys that a good product cannot.

It also lands in a market where the official sponsor is not the only brand selling a New York shoe. Saucony put a New York Endorphin Azura out on August 15 at $150, no contract required and no expo exclusive attached. New Balance has the rights and is pricing to them. Whether runners pay the difference for a heel that says NYC is the real question, and race weekend will answer it.

At $289.99 this sits at the ceiling of New Balance’s own collection. The brand’s press release puts collection footwear between $155 and $290, so the New York SuperComp Elite v6 is the most expensive shoe in it by a rounding error. The plain SuperComp Elite v6, same foam, same plate, same upper, is $274.99 on newbalance.com right now. The $15 gap buys the tongue label, the heel hit, and the right to wear what the sponsor built for the race. Marathon racers have been walking toward $300 for a while, and this pair closes most of what was left.

The TCS NYC Marathon SuperComp Elite v6 releases Thursday, September 10 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern, in men’s sizing under MRCEL7RZ and women’s under WRCEL185, at $289.99. Both pages are live now with a Notify Me button. The rest of the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon collection lands the same morning, including the Ellipse and the Pinnacle Race Day apparel. The race itself is Sunday, November 1.
