Nike has put four college football programs on the Air Foamposite Pro and is sending all four to retail on November 5. LSU, TCU, Ohio State and Florida State each get a version built around something specific to the school, down to the slogan written into the heel webbing. The schools are not the interesting part. The interesting part is that these same four design ideas already existed on a football cleat that only the players got to wear.
The Foamposite Pro is the second shoe in a line that started in 1997. Eric Avar’s Air Foamposite One arrived that year on Penny Hardaway, built around a polyurethane shell poured into a mold rather than cut and stitched from panels, and it carried a retail figure of $180 at a moment when the Jordan 11 cost less. The Pro followed inside the same year with a bolder Swoosh laid across the lateral side and a separate textile eyestay wrapped around the lacing, which is still the fastest way to tell the two apart in a photograph. Both were basketball shoes built for guards who wanted something nobody else had. Nike has spent the two decades since treating the Pro as the more flexible of the two, the one you can put a graphic on without arguing with the shape, which is exactly why it keeps turning up carrying somebody’s colors. The site has watched that happen twice already this autumn, most recently on the Foamposite Pro Premium.
Each school got a different treatment rather than a recolor. LSU runs University Gold across the rippled shell with an allover tiger stripe graphic, a purple eyestay in a material Nike describes as tiger-inspired, a tongue webbing stripe pulled from the football team’s pants, the tiger eye logo on the heel and “Geaux Tigers” written on the heel webbing. TCU takes its allover frog skin pattern from Texas Christian’s alternate game jerseys, with the tongue webbing stripe lifted from the jersey sleeve and the heel graphic nodding to the back neck tag. Ohio State is the quiet one, tonal white throughout with a chrome red Swoosh and the buckeye leaf merit sticker on the heel, the decal players earn for a play worth marking. Florida State goes Team Maroon with a tonal pattern drawn from the sleeve stripe, an “Unconquered” heel tab and a gum outsole that none of the other three carry.

The cleat is what makes this worth stopping on. Sneaker Bar Detroit and JustFreshKicks both report that Nike built college Vaporposite Pro football cleats for these programs and kept them to the rosters, and House of Heat says the Foamposite graphics correspond to those cleats program by program. So this is not a sneaker pack borrowing football colors. It is the retail half of something that already shipped to players only, which is a pattern this silhouette knows well. The Mummy Duck began life the same way before it reached anybody outside a locker room. What has changed is the lag. Nike used to let a team pair sit unreleased for years and let the story do the work. Here the retail version is arriving while the season it refers to is still being played, which is the same instinct behind the Texas Air Force 1 and a real shift in how this company treats college product.

Worth noting what the feeds had and did not have. When JustFreshKicks covered the LSU pair on October 23 it said plainly that the remaining schools had not been named, and House of Heat, writing a week later, still had TCU down as expected to surface soon. Nike’s own product feed has carried all four for longer than that, with the same November 5 entry window on each and a full set of press frames attached to every one. The lineup was never four schools and a rumor. It was four schools, sitting in the same place, waiting for somebody to read the whole row instead of the one that got pictures first.
Retail sits at $250 across all four, and that number deserves a second of context. The Foamposite One cost $180 in 1997 and was treated as an outrage at the time, which puts this pack roughly where the line has always sat relative to everything around it. Against the current Foamposite Pro shelf it is a step up rather than a reset, and the schools are what you are paying the difference for. Resale on team-specific product cuts hard both ways. A pair tied to a program with a national following tends to clear, while the rest of the run sits at retail long enough for the people who actually wanted it to find their size.

All four release November 5 at $250. The style codes are IX2091-700 for LSU in University Gold/White, IX2092-500 for TCU in New Orchid/White, IX2094-100 for Ohio State in White/University Red and IX2095-600 for Florida State in Team Maroon/White. SneakerFiles lists Nike, Foot Locker, Hibbett and DTLR among the retailers carrying the pack.
