The Air Force 1 Protro is a modern take on the 1982 classic, updated with a drop in ReactX insole for a softer, more responsive ride than the standard AF1. Adding Kobe branding to that platform is a notable move. Rather than confining the Bryant catalog to on court basketball models, Nike is treating his name as a full lifestyle line, the same way it has with other all time greats. That is a meaningful shift for a signature that was defined by performance for two decades.
To me this proves Nike sees long term value in the Kobe brand beyond the hardwood. The Dodgers tie in gives the shoe a built in Los Angeles audience, and the Protro cushioning gives sneaker fans a reason to wear it daily. It is a smart way to keep Bryant’s line in regular rotation and in front of a wider crowd than a $190 signature hoop shoe would reach.
