The Nike Air Liquid Max is back with a new colorway, and the ‘Bred’ version is one of the sharper entries in the Summer 2026 lineup. Black and red with metallic gold accents, it is a clean, bold look built around one of Nike‘s newer cushioning systems, and it has two separate release dates depending on where you shop.
Nike has been one of the dominant forces in sneaker culture for decades, building its reputation on performance footwear before crossing over into lifestyle and streetwear in a major way. The brand’s Air cushioning technology has been central to that story since the late 1980s, evolving through countless iterations and becoming one of the most recognized features in the sneaker world. The Vapormax, which arrived in the mid-2010s, pushed that evolution forward by exposing the Air unit directly underfoot and stripping away traditional midsole foam entirely.
The Air Liquid Max is the next chapter in that cushioning story. It debuted earlier this year as Nike’s latest Air technology upgrade, and the system works differently from what came before. Instead of a continuous Air bag, the Liquid Max sole uses strategically placed, spherical pod-like Air bubbles across the bottom of the shoe. Those pods deliver cushioning at specific high-impact zones, while the spaces left between them help cut down on overall weight. The construction draws a clear line back to Vapormax thinking, but the liquid-filled, modular structure gives it its own identity.
The ‘Bred’ colorway leans into a frog skin-inspired texture on the upper layers, layering dark and bright red tones over a black base. The textured surface adds visual depth without relying on loud graphics, and metallic gold finishes off the Swoosh and other branding elements throughout the shoe. It is part of Nike’s Summer 2026 rollout, sitting alongside other fresh colorways for the model.
The Nike Air Liquid Max ‘Bred’ releases May 28 at Footshop and June 17 on Nike SNKRS, priced at $220. If this release catches your attention, it is worth exploring the broader Air Liquid Max lineup or digging into more of Nike’s Air-based silhouettes to see how the cushioning story continues to develop.
