Nike Air Liquid Max ‘Bred’ Reviews Well and Resells at a Third of Retail

The Nike Air Liquid Max in black, red and metallic gold released June 17 at $220. Nike’s name for it is Bright Crimson and Fire Red. Everyone else settled on Bred. Almost three months later the shoe is still on Nike SNKRS in a full size run at full price, one European stockist has it marked down 25 percent, and the last recorded sale on StockX is $70. A shoe carrying Nike’s newest Air construction is being resold for less than a third of what Nike asks for it.

The Air Liquid Max is not a retro. Nike launched it March 26, 2026, on Air Max Day, and built the day around it. The name has confused people ever since, because there is no liquid in it. Nike’s own newsroom describes a contoured Air unit that sits low to the ground, surrounded by cored-out areas of negative space, and calls the result point-loaded Air. The bag goes where the foot actually loads. Everywhere else the unit is cut away to save weight, and a drop-in Cushlon midsole sits on top of it.

That is a reversal worth noticing. The Air VaporMax, which arrived March 26, 2017, took the foam out entirely and put the foot straight onto the Air unit, with nothing between the Air and the ground either. The Air Liquid Max puts foam back in and removes air instead. Nike has never called it a successor to anything. The Air Max Dn line it prices above works from a different idea again, a dual-chamber Dynamic Air setup running four tubes at 15 psi in the heel and 5 psi at the forefoot. Three shoes, three arguments about what Air is for, all sold on nike.com at the same time.

This colorway is where the design gets specific, and where two corrections belong. The Air Liquid Max was built on poison dart frog references. Marya Chan, the lead material designer, described the upper as reading unified from a distance and separating up close into three layers of printing at different heights. Mike McCoy, the lead color designer, put the palette in terms of the animal, saying that for the poison dart frog, color is confidence and boldness is protection. On this pair that lands as black underneath with team red, fire red and bright crimson stacked over the top, finished with a metallic gold Swoosh.

First correction. An earlier version of this post said the sole used spherical, pod-like, liquid-filled bubbles in place of a continuous Air bag. It does not. Nike describes one contoured unit with the space around it cored out, and Nike has never used the word liquid for what is inside it. Second correction. The chrome Swoosh, the seamless shine and the tinted translucent outsole that turn up in a lot of coverage belong to the debut green pair, IQ7634-001, not to this one. The triple black IQ7634-003 is a third thing again.

The read here is that Nike built a new piece of Air, priced it at the top of the line, and the market declined. Every men’s size from 5 through 15 is still available on SNKRS at $220. Très Bien has it at $165. Sneakersnstuff still has stock. That is not a quality verdict, because Nike’s own product page carries a 4.8 out of 5 and the comfort reviews are consistent. It is a price verdict, and the timing is awkward. Nike pulled roughly $2 billion of classic franchise supply out of the market across its 2026 fiscal year and is counting on new footwear to fill the gap. Air Liquid Max was supposed to be one of the things doing the filling.

For the ladder, the debut green pair lists at $230, which makes this one a $10 saving on its own model. The Air VaporMax Plus is also $220 and currently sits 30 percent off on Nike’s site. The Air Max 1000, the 3D-printed laceless one, is $180. Most of the Air Max Dn shelf runs $160 to $190 and is discounted across the board right now. Liquid Max entered around $50 above Dn and has not held that position anywhere except on Nike’s own listing. The secondary market is blunter still: last sale $70, three-month average $150, 293 sales in three months, a 68 percent discount to retail.

It is still available in a full size run on Nike SNKRS, in stock at Sneakersnstuff, and marked down at Très Bien. One last correction. An earlier version of this post listed a May 28 release at Footshop. No source carries that date, Footshop lists only the triple black, and the claim has been removed.
