The Nike Air Max 95 Big Bubble Aya Brown Atomic Green is a collaborative take on the classic runner, pairing artist Aya Brown with one of Nike‘s most recognizable Air Max shapes.
The Air Max 95 arrived in 1995 as a departure from everything that came before it. Designer Sergio Lozano built the upper around the human body, with layered panels meant to echo muscle and skin and a gradient that faded from dark to light as it climbed. It was also the first Air Max to place visible Air in both the heel and the forefoot, and the Big Bubble label points back to that original, larger volume of cushioning that recent retros have worked to bring back.
This version hands the palette to Aya Brown. Atomic Green suede covers the wavy side panels, black runs through the midsole and neoprene collar, and University Red shows up on the lace dubrae and the Air bubbles. An ABrown spin on the oval Air Max logo sits on the tongue.
To me this proves the 95 is still one of the best canvases in Nike’s catalog for an outside voice. The silhouette is busy by design, so a collaborator has real room to work without redrawing the shoe. Handing the platform to an artist rather than another brand also keeps the release grounded in the personal, which is where the 95 has always connected.
