This post has been rewritten, because the version that stood here contradicted itself. The headline called the Nike Air Max Pre-Day a Pure Platinum release. The body underneath described it as Summit White and Black. Both cannot be right, and as it turns out neither was quite right either. Style code DA4263-100 is a white and grey shoe with no black on it at all. The black belongs to a different pair.
Nike’s own color string for DA4263-100, as retailers reproduce it, is Summit White, White and Pure Platinum. That explains where both names came from: Summit White is the front of the string and became the common retail nickname, Pure Platinum is the tail of it and became the name StockX and Sneaker Bar Detroit used. Neither is wrong on its own, and a post should pick one and use it in both places. The black in the old copy traces to DA4263-001, a separate colorway Nike lists as Black, Anthracite, Iron Grey and Smoke Grey. Two style codes one digit apart, one shoe described as a blend of the two, which is how these errors happen in a feed.
The Pre-Day itself launched March 26, 2021, on Air Max Day, which is the one piece of context the original post left out entirely and the only one that explains the shoe. Nike positioned it as a reductive design, a lifestyle Air Max with the heel unit left exposed rather than encased, and priced it at $130. The name is where the coverage gets loose. A number of outlets state the Pre-Day is named for Steve Prefontaine. Nike has published no such thing. Its own launch copy says the shoe is “inspired by the revolutionary footwear that helped Nike build its brand on the oval,” which is a nod to the company’s track heritage generally and names no athlete. Sneaker Freaker separately reads the design as a descendant of the Daybreak and the late-seventies joggers, also its own framing rather than Nike’s. The honest position is that Nike never explained the name, and everything filling that gap is inference.
The construction claims in the old copy were accurate but not reported. The exposed Air unit, the line about compression creating a soft bounce in the heel, and the “at least 20% recycled content by weight” figure are all lifted, near verbatim, from Nike’s own product boilerplate, and that boilerplate appears identically on every Pre-Day colorway. It describes the model, not this pair. The one specific-sounding detail, a size run of US Men’s 4 through 15, appears in no Nike listing or retailer page that could be found, so it has been removed rather than repeated.
The release date is not settled, which is why this post no longer asserts one. It previously carried May 20, 2021, a date StockX gives. Sneaker Bar Detroit says May 11, 2021. Sneaker News says July 13, 2021. Hypebeast reported the pair already live on Nike’s China webstore on April 1, 2021. Four sources, four answers, and no Nike page left to settle it. The $130 retail is not in dispute and is carried consistently across all of them.
What has changed since is that the shoe is gone. Nike’s product URLs for DA4263-100 return 404 in both the US and UK, and Foot Locker’s Air Max Pre-Day collection page currently shows no Pre-Day product at all. Nike does not announce discontinuations, so that is strong evidence rather than confirmation, but the market agrees with it. StockX on September 11 showed a lowest ask of $76 and a last sale of $107 against $130 retail, roughly 18 percent below the original price, on nine sales across three months. That is not a shoe with a collector tail. It is a well-made, quietly good lifestyle runner that Nike stopped making, and the reason it is still worth a page is that the Pre-Day was Nike’s argument for what a stripped-back Air Max could be before the Air Max Dn took that job.
