Nike Air Rift 2 “Kenya” Releases June 25

Nike is dropping the Air Rift 2 in a “Kenya” colorway on June 25, bringing back the successor to one of the brand’s most distinctive running silhouettes. The shoe features black mesh on the upper with dark green base layering and Fire Red embroidered Swooshes on the outer toes, a direct reference to Kenya’s flag and the country’s Rift Valley where the original Air Rift drew its inspiration.

The Air Rift debuted in 1995 as part of Nike’s running line, designed specifically to mimic barefoot running. The shoe’s most recognizable feature is its Tabi split toe design, which creates a distinct separation between the big toe and the rest of the foot. A specially constructed sole was engineered to replicate the sensation of running barefoot while still providing cushioning and support. The silhouette became a summer staple thanks to its open, airy construction and has maintained cult status for over three decades.

After a long absence, Nike revived the Air Rift in 2023, introducing it to a new generation while capitalizing on the current trend toward slim, minimal sneaker designs. The Air Rift 2, which originally launched in 2002 as the successor to the 1995 original, represents a cleaner and more streamlined take on the silhouette. This June release marks the first retro reissue of the Air Rift 2, and Nike revealed it through their SNKRS Verified content series, a newer format replacing previous live video unveilings.

The “Kenya” makeup uses two types of mesh construction across the upper, pairing the dark green base with black side panel overlays. The Fire Red stitching on the toe Swooshes completes the nod to the shoe’s Kenyan heritage and the barefoot runners who originally inspired the design.

Pairs drop on Nike SNKRS on June 25 for $125, with select retailers also receiving stock.
