Nike‘s Mind line has spent 2026 insisting that a sneaker can do something to a nervous system, and the Mind 002 Flyknit is that claim built for a normal day. A black and dark smoke grey pair enters SNKRS on November 10, with lime green loops scattered through the knit and the same 22 foam nodes rolling under the footbed. What makes it worth more than a colorway post is where the Flyknit build came from, because Nike was not the one that introduced it.

The Mind line is Nike’s neuroscience footwear project and it is barely a year old. Nike announced it in January 2026 as sensory footwear developed in what the company calls its Mind Science Department, built on the idea that stimulating the sole of the foot activates sensory regions of the brain. The 002 is the full sneaker in that family. Twenty-two foam nodes sit under the footbed and travel up and down against the foot, with a stretch fabric laid over them so they can move without digging in. This site covered the Pink Smoke pair in July, and the hardware has not changed since.
Where the 002 sits in Nike’s range is less obvious than the hardware. It is not a running shoe, it is not a slide, and Nike has avoided calling it recovery footwear, which is a crowded category with its own vocabulary and its own price ceiling. The nearest sibling is the Mind 001, which Nike built as a pregame mule and which returns in three colorways on November 5. The 002 is the one in the family you can wear out of the house.

The Flyknit treatment is what separates this pair from the rest of it. fragment design previewed a Flyknit Mind 002 in February and released it in spring, which means Hiroshi Fujiwara’s studio had the construction before Nike’s own general line did. This version runs it in black. Flyknit covers the side panels, a grey knit climbs up from the toe, and a thick exposed stitch runs the seam where the two meet. The tongue and collar carry a shaggy brushed material that reads as a different shoe entirely from a few feet away.
The green is the detail doing the most work. Small oval loops run along the sides in a bright lime, and several of them anchor the laces rather than sitting there as trim. A toggle sits near the top of the tongue in place of a knot, the toe cap is a smooth grey, and the sole stays entirely black, so the node pattern underneath reads as texture rather than as a feature. From above, the green turns up again inside the collar, which is the only place in the whole shoe where the color goes loud.

Using a collaborator as a proving ground and then absorbing the result is not how Nike usually runs a partnership. The standard arrangement hands a collaborator a finished silhouette and a palette, and the shoe disappears when the drop sells out. Here the collaboration delivered a construction, and the construction stayed. That is a tell about how seriously Nike is taking this category. A line that was still being explained to people in January is now taking its upper engineering from a design studio Nike trusts to be early, and the general release is what carries it forward.
There is a risk built into it too. Nike has put an entire line behind a claim about the brain, and a claim like that is easy to make and hard for a buyer to check. A shoe promising to activate sensory regions is selling something you cannot feel working the way you can feel a plate or an Air bag underfoot. What the Flyknit build does is lower the stakes of that question. In black, with a knit upper and a lace toggle, this has to hold up as a sneaker first, and the neuroscience becomes a reason to pick it rather than the only reason it exists.
Retail is $145, which places it under the Zoom Vomero 5 CORDURA at $180 and over the P-6000 CORDURA at $125, two shoes from the same slice of Nike’s lifestyle board. Inside its own family the gap is wider. The Mind 001 mules arrive at $95, so the Flyknit 002 costs fifty dollars more for an upper, a lacing system and a shoe that works outdoors. Extra Butter already lists the pair at $145 across a full adult size run, which matches Nike’s own figure rather than a retailer markup.
The Nike Mind 002 Flyknit releases November 10 in Black, Anthracite and Dark Smoke Grey, style code IR2176-002, at $145. Entries open on SNKRS at 7 a.m. PT, with wider availability expected at Nike.com and the pair listed now at Extra Butter. One thing to flag for anyone who saw this shoe earlier in the month: several outlets reported an October 14 release that Nike never announced, and Sneaker Bar Detroit was still carrying it as a Fall 2026 window on October 24. November 10 is the first date to come off Nike’s own launch board.
