No Comply and New Balance are releasing their second collaborative 480 this Saturday, June 13. The ‘Hippies & Cowboys’ edition draws inspiration from Austin’s music history, specifically the convergence of counterculture and country music that defined the city’s sound in the early 1970s.
The story behind the design centers on Willie Nelson’s move from Nashville back to Texas in 1971. Looking for new audiences, Nelson and Waylon Jennings began playing shows across the state, including a memorable performance at the Armadillo World Headquarters. During that show, Jennings peeked through the curtain to find an unlikely crowd: hippies and cowboys coexisting peacefully. Nelson later reflected on this moment, recognizing that music had the power to bring together people from different worlds.
No Comply translates this cultural intersection onto the New Balance Numeric 480. The shoe uses a brown Arid Stone suede as its base, paired with black overlays in full grain leather and suede. The hippie and cowboy references appear as subtle details: a paisley pattern backs the N logos on the right shoe, while tie-dye canvas appears on the left. The insoles match their respective sides. The release also includes special packaging for the first 200 in-store customers, featuring a guitar case-inspired box with velvet lining.
The New Balance Numeric 480 has been a staple in skate communities since its introduction. Known for its durable construction and responsive cushioning, the silhouette has attracted both skaters and sneaker enthusiasts. This marks No Comply’s second partnership with New Balance, following their inaugural 480 collaboration late in 2025 that celebrated the skateshop’s retail space with dark green, black, and yellow tones.
The drop takes place in-store at No Comply’s Austin location starting at 10am on June 13, 2026. Pairs cost $110. The first 200 customers receive the special guitar case packaging. The style code is UN480SMK.
