Soulgoods Built the Homescape Woven Around Taking Your Shoes Off at the Door

Nike released the Soulgoods Homescape Woven in Medium Orewood Brown on July 11, and the interesting part is not the collaboration credit. It is the brief. Soulgoods asked Nike to build a shoe around the Chinese household habit of stepping out of your shoes at the front door, and Nike’s own launch copy describes the result as bridging the ease of staying in and the freedom of stepping out. That is a real design premise, and it produced a real new model.

The Homescape is not a Footscape retro and it is not the Footscape Woven under a new name. Sneaker Bar Detroit reports the project started when Soulgoods asked to add a mudguard to the Footscape Woven and the request grew into a separate model, which matches how Nike presents it, as a house-shoe idea rather than a reissue. What it does inherit is the Footscape family’s two signatures, and Nike names both in its own copy, the asymmetrical lacing that runs off-center across the instep and the prominent woven detailing through the upper. Those are the cues that make people read it as a Footscape at a glance.

The rest of the build points somewhere else entirely. The nubuck, the round laces, the toggle system and the rugged outsole sit closer to Nike Considered, the mid-2000s program built around reduced-waste construction, and to the Special Field Boot. Dating the original Footscape is harder than it should be. Nike’s own newsroom carries no archive entry for it, and every year in circulation traces back to secondary coverage rather than to Nike, so this post does not put one in print.

Nike’s material list for the brown pair is leather and shaggy suede, and the shaggy suede is what carries the shoe. Woven leather paneling runs through the midfoot, tumbled leather and nubuck fill in around it, and the upper reads closer to a house slipper in expensive materials than to a sneaker. The heel collapses, which is the mechanical version of the concept. Crush it down and the shoe is a mule, pull it up and it laces like a sneaker. The lacing is a quick toggle rather than a standard eyestay, so getting in and out takes one pull, and Soulgoods’ own marker is a tiger-shaped lace lock.

Nike lists the colorway as Dark Field Brown and Medium Orewood Brown, leading with the darker of the two, and the full string runs Medium Orewood Brown / Dark Field Brown-Dark Blue Grey. The brown debuted at a Paris event on June 23 before the wider release.

Nike tied the launch to Soulgoods’ tenth anniversary, and that framing is doing more work than the usual collaboration anniversary note. Soulgoods is a Beijing brand founded in 2016 under the motto “From Beijing to the World,” and JustFreshKicks calls it the first mainland Chinese brand to execute a co-brand with Nike. A decade in, it did not get a colorway on an existing silhouette. It got a new model, built from a cultural premise specific to where it comes from, with Nike putting its own launch copy behind that premise rather than around it.

That is rarer than the collaboration count suggests. Nike hands new silhouettes to athletes and to its own performance categories. Giving one to a partner brand, and letting the partner’s cultural argument define the shoe rather than decorate it, is the part worth watching. Whether the rest of the Homescape rollout holds that line is the open question.

Nike listed the brown at €169.99 in Europe, the one retail figure available on a Nike page. The US number reported by Sneaker Bar Detroit and JustFreshKicks is $180, and it is worth flagging that JustFreshKicks later put the Chile Red colorway at $170, so either the run is not uniformly priced or one of those two figures is wrong. At $180 the Homescape sits above a collaboration Dunk and in the band a leather-heavy SP make-up occupies, which the material list justifies more honestly than most shoes at that number.

The Medium Orewood Brown released July 11, 2026 through SNKRS and Soulgoods at $180, style code HM6961-001. This post previously carried July 11, 2025, a year before the shoe existed, since the first public look ran in October 2025. Sneaker Bar Detroit reported the brown as the only colorway expected to reach the United States. Two more followed, Blue Beyond in HM6961-400 and Chile Red in HM6961-600 on August 16.
