Supreme and Nike are bringing back a runner most people forgot about. The Nike Air Max 2001 Air Ecstasy in University Red is the loudest of three colorways in the collaboration, pairing red with speed yellow and an aged-looking midsole.
The name is doing a lot of work here. Nike built a cluster of Alpha Project runners in the early 2000s that shared tooling and design language, and the Air Max 2000, Air Max 2001, and Air Ecstasy Plus have been mixed up by collectors for two decades. Supreme is using the Air Max 2001 Air Ecstasy name for its version, while Nike is expected to use the simpler Air Max Ecstasy Plus name on general release pairs.
Supreme swaps the original upper for quilted mesh, adds reflective detailing, and works oversized SUPREME branding into the TPU structure at the heel. The full-length Tuned Air setup underneath stays intact.
This shows Supreme is still more interested in the archive deep cuts than the obvious hits. The Air Max 2000 family never carried the weight of a 95 or a 97, and that is exactly why it works here. Nobody has a fixed opinion about this shoe, so Supreme gets to write the story. The audience is the collector who can name the Alpha Project era on sight, plus the Supreme customer who buys regardless of what is on the shelf.
