Nike put the ACG badge on the LDV this year, and the pairing is closer to a homecoming than a crossover. The LDV is the shoe two American climbers wore to walk 130 miles into K2 base camp in 1978, and the notes they sent back afterwards are part of the reason ACG exists at all. Four colorways have already released, the first two in April, which means the version of this story that had the shoe arriving later in the summer with details to follow is out of date.
Publicly, LDV stands for Long Distance Vector, a reading Nike and the Smithsonian both carry. Internally it was Long Distance Vixie, after Dennis Vixie, the podiatrist who made the last, a detail Nike put in its own newsroom in February. The original is a late-1970s shoe and the exact year is unsettled: 1978 is the most cited, the Smithsonian dates its example to circa 1979, and Sotheby’s windows production from 1978 to 1982 around a receipted 1980 pair. It evolved from the LD-1000 of 1977, whose flared heel caused pronation problems and a recall, and it ran on the waffle outsole Bill Bowerman patented in 1974. Its nylon mesh upper was among the first breathable uppers on a running shoe. No individual designer is credited for the LDV anywhere. One thing this post had wrong: the LDV is not a trail silhouette. It was built for long-distance road running, and Nike’s own copy says plainly that it underwent durability upgrades to get it trail ready, which is a description of a conversion rather than an origin.
Nike’s product title is ACG LDV Men’s Shoes. It is not an LDV Runner, and Nike uses the word Runner nowhere in its copy, which means this site’s own model tag is still carrying a name Nike does not use. The style number is IF2857 across four colorways. Nike’s own strings for the two still listed are Wolf Grey/Summit White/White/Navy for IF2857-001 and Varsity Red/Sail/White/Wolf Grey for IF2857-600. The two April pairs, IF2857-400 in Brilliant Blue/Sail/White/Turf Orange and IF2857-700 in Dark Sulfur/Photo Blue/Sail/White, have been retired from Nike’s site, so those strings come from StockX and Huckberry rather than Nike directly. On the build, Nike’s readable copy mentions only breathable mesh and a grippy waffle outsole. Press coverage adds a ReactX midsole and an All Terrain Compound outsole, neither of which appears in Nike’s own product text, so both belong to the outlets that reported them.
ACG has always worked by putting its badge on running shoes, which is why this reads as continuity rather than a stunt. The ACG designation first surfaced in 1988 on the Air Pegasus ACG, and the line launched properly in 1989 under Kirk Richardson, per Nike’s own account of it. The Air Mowabb followed in 1991, Tinker Hatfield building an outdoor shoe on Huarache running technology. The Air Humara arrived in 1997 under Nike Running before ACG absorbed it into its canon. The label then went techwear under Errolson Hugh from 2014 through Holiday 2018, turned toward heritage under James Arizumi after that, dated to 2019 by Highsnobiety and more loosely to the 2020s by Complex, and has spent 2025 and 2026 pushing back toward outdoor performance. Against all of that, the LDV is the most honest thing ACG has shipped in a while, because the story does not have to be bolted on afterwards. The shoe is already the reason the division was founded.
US retail is $130 across Nike. A few other figures are floating around and none of them is MSRP: END has listed IF2857-400 at $119 against a $159 regular price and IF2857-600 at $129, and the UK launch price was £119. At $130 the ACG LDV lines up with Nike’s retro-runner pricing rather than its technical outdoor pricing, and it undercuts most of what ACG currently sells in trail footwear. That is the clearest signal of who Nike expects to buy it, whatever the K2 provenance in the marketing suggests.
IF2857-400 and IF2857-700 released April 23. IF2857-001 followed on June 18 in the UK and EU with the US shortly after, and IF2857-600 released June 25. All $130. Nike currently lists IF2857-001 and IF2857-600, with the Wolf Grey pair showing unavailable, and END carries the blue and the red. Nike’s own ACG LDV expedition page carries the K2 account.
