Air Max Goadome Low Hides a Second Colorway Under Its Leather

Nike‘s Air Max Goadome Low SP looks like a plain black boot until it stops being one. The upper is full-grain brush-off leather, and Nike’s own copy says the graphics sitting under that black surface come up as the leather wears away. It released June 18, which puts the earliest pairs three months into the only process that finishes the design. No two of them will land in the same place.

The Air Max Goadome arrived in 2000 out of Nike ACG, designed by Carl Blakeslee, and the name is a piece of studio trivia that stuck. Goa is the trance music Blakeslee was listening to while he sketched it. Dome came from the ACG Lavadome that preceded it. What he drew was a winter boot that borrowed from Nike’s running program instead of from workwear, with a high leather upper, Air cushioning underfoot and a lug outsole with real bite. It sold to people who needed a cold-weather boot and to people who only wanted to look like they did, and a quarter century later the full-height version is still on Nike.com at $190. Nike cut it down for the first time this year. The Air Max Goadome Low arrived February 20 under IQ0641-001 in Black and Anthracite at $175, with a taupe pair beside it. That is worth being precise about, because the low-top itself is the 2026 news and this SP is not it.

IR2173-001 is the SP that followed in June, and it is where the interesting idea went. Nike lists the colorway as Black, Pale Citron, Veranda and Metallic Silver, which is the first thing this page has to correct about itself. It is not a triple black shoe. The Triple Black nickname belongs to IQ0641-001, the February pair, and that one has no hidden graphics at all. What is on IR2173-001 is black sitting on top of the other three colors. Nike’s description of the mechanism is unusually plain for a technical feature and it does not give the treatment a name: beneath the black surface, special graphics are revealed as you wear them. The finish doing the work is brush-off leather, which abrades to a different color underneath rather than simply scuffing. Retailer listings have described the buried artwork as a circuit-board motif. Nike does not say that anywhere, so treat it as a shop’s reading and not as a spec.

A shoe designed to be ruined is a strange thing for Nike to sell in 2026, and that is the argument for it. The secondary market runs on deadstock, and its whole grading vocabulary treats wear as damage. Brush-off leather inverts that. A pair kept in the box is the least finished version of the product, and the only way to see what you bought is to stop protecting it. ACG is the corner of Nike where that kind of thinking still survives, which is probably why the idea landed on a Goadome and not on an Air Force 1. The risk is that it reads as a gimmick if the reveal comes slowly or comes up muddy, and nobody outside Nike has worn a pair long enough to say yet. The quieter risk is the tier itself. SP is where Nike parks ideas it is not ready to run at scale, and this may end up the only Goadome that does it.

Retail is $200, and the number is worth holding against the rest of the line. The full-height Air Max Goadome sits at $190, and the February Goadome Low was $175. So the SP asks $25 over the standard low-top and $10 over the boot it was cut down from, for a leather finish and nothing else structural. Earlier coverage of this pair, this page included, said pricing had not been confirmed. It has been, on Nike’s own regional product pages and at Sneaker Bar Detroit, and $200 is the figure. Nike has been willing to charge above the boot for ACG ideas before, as the Goadome and Foamposite hybrid showed.

Release details: released June 18, 2026, style code IR2173-001, $200, in Nike’s Black, Pale Citron, Veranda and Metallic Silver. One more correction while this page is open: the limited-release language that followed this shoe around, one pair per person with no returns or cancellations after checkout, is a retailer’s own policy. It appears in no Nike copy for IR2173-001.
