LaMelo Ball’s signature line has spent five years being the loudest thing on an NBA floor. The PUMA MB.06 in Black and Gold is the first colorway of the sixth model that does not open with a color, and it arrives for Fall/Winter 2026 in adult and grade school sizes at the same time. That last detail is the one that says the most about where PUMA thinks this line is.
PUMA signed Ball in 2020, before he had played an NBA game, which at the time looked like a gamble on a highlight reel. He won Rookie of the Year and the bet paid off immediately. The MB.01 followed in 2021 and set the template for everything after it, a signature line built on maximalism, odd colorways, and the sense that the shoe was an extension of a personality rather than a spec sheet. PUMA had only just returned to basketball after a long absence, and the MB line became the clearest argument that the brand was serious. Six models in, it is the longest-running active signature series PUMA has, and it has outlasted plenty of louder launches from bigger basketball brands. PUMA had been out of the category for the better part of two decades before the 2018 return, and the early years leaned on rookies and volume. Ball is the one who turned it into a line with an identity.
What sets this pair apart is that the decoration is borrowed rather than invented. The upper is black with metallic gold worked through the tattoo-style graphics that cover the shoe, and several of those graphics are Ball’s own ink. The angel wings and the “1 of 1” callouts exist on him before they existed on the shoe. That is a different proposition from a signature model that prints a logo and calls it personal, and it is the reason the black and gold treatment does not read as a safe colorway so much as a legible one. Take away the color and the drawings still tell you whose shoe it is.
It also solves a problem the line has had. A shoe covered in graphics needs a reason for them, and the MB models have sometimes read as decorated rather than designed. Rendering the ink in a single metallic tone against black turns the graphics into surface texture instead of competing artwork, so the eye reads the shape of the shoe first and the detail second. That is a more disciplined use of the same material, and it is the sort of adjustment a signature line makes when it stops selling to early adopters and starts selling to everyone.
The read is that PUMA is converting the MB line from a novelty into a franchise. Releasing adult and grade school sizing together is not a small thing, it is what brands do when they expect a shoe to sell through the season rather than sell out on a Saturday. A black and gold colorway is a basketball staple that works on a court, in a team uniform, and on a shelf in November, and the MB line has not had many of those. The 06 rollout started with a territory-exclusive Puerto Rico pair over the summer, which was a marketing moment. This one is inventory, and that is a healthier sign for a signature line than another one-off. The timing supports that. Fall/Winter puts it on shelves as the NBA season opens, which is when a signature basketball shoe is supposed to arrive and, oddly, when many of them do not.
The adult MB.06 is listed at $130, with the grade school pair at $110 under style code 314791-01. That is the cheapest tier of any current signature basketball shoe from a major brand, and it has been the MB line’s quiet advantage the entire time. Nike’s and Jordan Brand’s signature guards sit between $140 and $200, and the gap has done more for LaMelo’s shelf presence than any single colorway. For a parent buying a real performance basketball shoe for a kid, $110 is a genuinely different conversation.
