The Oogie Boogie Book 2 Puts a Devin Booker Mask in the Box

Nike is sending Devin Booker’s second signature shoe into Halloween week dressed as the one character in The Nightmare Before Christmas who is held together with stitching. The Book 2 “Oogie Boogie” arrives October 30 in a colorway Nike files as Sea Glass, and the shoe is only part of what ships. Open the box and there is a wearable mask of Booker’s own face inside, which is a stranger decision than anything printed on the upper.

The Book line is two years into a bet that a guard who wins on footwork rather than on hang time can carry a signature shoe. Booker’s first model arrived in 2024 and went straight at October, running both a Halloween makeup and a Nightmare Before Christmas pair before the year closed, so the sequel inheriting the holiday is a rerun of something that already worked rather than a stunt. Nike handed Booker a signature shoe at a point when the company had narrowed its basketball roster to a short list of names, and the line has lasted by being easy to wear off the floor, which is more than several louder signature models of the last decade managed. The Book 2 is built around one real engineering decision. Nike moved the Air Zoom unit out of the heel and into the forefoot, which the brand says it did for low-profile responsiveness, and that is the entire argument of the shoe: a flat, fast platform for a player whose best work happens inside the arc on half a step of separation. The midsole uses Nike’s newest Cushlon foam, the upper is a light flexible mesh, and the outsole carries a modernized herringbone pattern the brand credits to Booker’s own affection for the Air Force 1, borrowing pivot circles off a hoops shoe that stopped playing basketball decades ago.

The Sea Glass upper photographs closer to bone than to green, and the Oogie Boogie reference is carried almost entirely by line work instead of by color. Rows of small stitch marks run along the midfoot and around the heel, the crude suturing that holds a burlap sack together, and black does the rest on the laces and on an oversized Swoosh. The tongue tag reads BOOK inside a green cartoon bubble. Pull the insole out and the sockliner is covered in bugs, which is the other half of the character and the only place the shoe gets loud. Nike’s copy promises a spooky glow-in-the-dark outsole. The brand’s own product photography shows more than that, because in the dark frame the Swoosh lights up green alongside the sole, so the glow is not confined to where the copy says it is. The box carries the Booker mask with stitched facial detail and an orange Nike headband, plus a spare set of cream laces.

Jordan Brand, Nike Basketball and Nike Sportswear have each filed a Halloween release in the last three weeks, so the calendar is crowded and the only question worth asking is what separates this one. Two things do. The first is that Nike is not treating it as a draw. Nike’s product feed carries no SNKRS entry window for the Book 2 and sets a limit of ten pairs per order, which is the shape of a general release rather than a lottery, and that is a real contrast with the Air Jordan 5 Halloween pair that went through earlier this month. The second is the packaging. Signature basketball shoes almost never ship with a costume piece, and a mask of the athlete’s own face is what a brand does when it wants a release to be fun rather than scarce. Booker’s line has never traded on scarcity, and the shoes have been better for it. Leaning into that instead of fighting it is the correct read, and it is the opposite of what Nike does with almost everything else it ships in late October.

At $155 the Book 2 is sitting exactly where it has sat all year. The Tigers makeup carried the same number in July, so the costume, the mask and the glow are arriving at no premium, which is not how holiday product usually works. Against the rest of the October board it lands in the middle. The Halloween Dunk Low came in under it, the LeBron Witness X Halloween lower still, and the Air Jordan 5 cleared it by sixty dollars. For a signature basketball shoe with forefoot Air Zoom, a full accessory kit and a glowing outsole, holding the line the model opened the year on is the most generous number on that list.

The Nike Book 2 “Oogie Boogie” releases October 30 in style code IO7942-001 at $155, through Nike.com and at Nike Basketball retailers. Nike files the colorway as Sea Glass, Black and Multi-Color. The box includes the Booker mask, the orange headband and an alternate lace set, and the brand has set a ten-pair limit per order rather than opening an entry window.
