Brain Dead, Disney and adidas Put the Predator on a Lug Sole

The Brain Dead x adidas Predator in Core Black and Cream White released June 29, 2026 at $200, and more than ten weeks later Brain Dead’s own store still has it in a wide size run at full price. Two things this post originally got wrong are worth fixing before anything else. It is not a Brain Dead project with Disney pins thrown in the box, it is a licensed three-way between adidas Originals, Brain Dead and Disney built around the 2026 World Cup. And the sole is not a dress-sneaker sole. Brain Dead calls it a street-ready lug sole.

The Predator is the most consequential football boot adidas ever sold, and the real story is better than the one this post told. It did not take its name from teeth-like stripe detailing. Nothing supports that. The boot came from Craig Johnston, the Australian-raised Liverpool midfielder who won the 1986 FA Cup and left the game in 1988 to care for his injured sister. Coaching kids in Sydney, teaching them to bend a ball, he was told by one of them that boots are leather and balls are rubber. He went home, stripped the rubber off a table tennis bat and strapped it to his boot with elastic bands. Roughly a thousand prototypes and about 250,000 pounds of his own money later, Nike, PUMA, Reebok and Umbro had all passed. In December 1990 he took it to Franz Beckenbauer at Bayern Munich, filmed Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Paul Breitner testing it, and played the tape to an adidas leadership then discussing bankruptcy. They signed him. The Predator launched in February 1994, and John Collins scored the first top-level goal in a pair that April, for Celtic against Rangers at Ibrox.

So the rubber fins across the forefoot were never decoration. They were there to raise friction between boot and ball for swerve, power and accuracy, and adidas sold the thing on the line “100% legal, 0% fair”, which traded on the idea of an unfair advantage without any governing body ever banning it. That is what Brain Dead is working from. The upper here is leather with 3D rubber overlays, crocodile print on the companion triple black pair, and the raised elements read as the 1994 fins reworked for a sidewalk. The two swappable foldover flap tongues are the sharper reference, one faux croc and one patent, the patent one perforated so the pins clip onto it. The foldover tongue is the Predator’s other signature, and adidas itself un-retired it on the Predator 30 in 2023.

The pins are the detail that got flattened into packaging swag. There are six vintage-style enamel pins carrying Brain Dead, adidas and Disney marks, plus two keychains, one Mickey Mouse and one Brain Dead x adidas Logohead. Because one tongue is perforated, they function as a customization system rather than a box filler. The property is Mickey and Friends, with Mickey and Donald leading across the wider apparel range. Sneaker Freaker described one pin as Daffy Duck, a Warner Bros. character that cannot appear inside a Disney licence, so read that as Donald. Brain Dead also notes the boot runs small and suggests going half a size up.

This is the fourth adidas silhouette Brain Dead has taken on and the first performance football boot. The run goes Stan Smith in September 2024, Forest Hills for spring 2025, Barricade 13 in October 2025, then Climacool 2 and Taekwondo Mei in December 2025. Heritage tennis to technical runner to football boot in under two years is a real arc, and this is the first time a third licensor came into one of their adidas projects. The commercial read is split. The apparel moved, with the white jersey, the navy raglan, the red scarf and the socks all sold out on Brain Dead’s site. The footwear did not. adidas has delisted the boot, Kith and Feature are out of stock, Overkill has two European sizes left, and Brain Dead is still holding a full run at retail.

At $200 it sits above a Predator 26 Pro at $170 and below the Elite fold-over tongue model at $280, which is an odd place for a boot nobody is going to wear on grass. Within Brain Dead’s own adidas line it is the ceiling. Their Climacool 2 launched at $180 and is currently half off at $90 on their own store, marked final sale, which is a useful read on how that footwear clears. No StockX or GOAT listing for KJ4289 turns up at all, which on its own says the secondary market never formed. For a straight football-first Predator on this site, the Better Generation Predator Sala is the other end of the same silhouette.

Release details. adidas Originals x Brain Dead x Disney Predator, Core Black and Cream White, style code KJ4289, $200, released Monday June 29, 2026. Brain Dead’s own collection page put it at 10 a.m. PDT, not the 7 a.m. PST this post previously carried, and PST is the wrong zone for late June in any case. It launched through the adidas CONFIRMED app, adidas.com, select adidas stores and wearebraindead.com, then went wider to Kith, Feature, Overkill and SVD. Brain Dead still has it, and SVD has it discounted.
