Nike Lists Four Colors on the Cacao Wow Air Max 95, and the Magenta Is Not One of Them

Nike Lists Four Colors on the Cacao Wow Air Max 95, and the Magenta Is Not One of Them

Nike has another Air Max 95 Big Bubble arriving November 10, and this one is called Cacao Wow. The listed colors are Cacao Wow, Black, Infinite Sable and Tropical Teal, and Nike’s product copy points straight at the teal, which it says turns up on the lace loops, the branding and the Air units. All of that is accurate. It is also not the first thing your eye lands on. The loudest color on the shoe appears nowhere in the name, nowhere in the four-color code and nowhere in the description.

Why the 95 keeps getting the materials work

Sergio Lozano designed the Air Max 95 in 1995 while he was working on Nike’s ACG side, and the stated reference was erosion rather than speed. Layers of soil worn away by rain to show what sits underneath. Nike’s own history of the shoe maps it part by part, assigning the shank along the outsole and heel to the spine, the nylon eyelets to the ribs, and the layered lacing structure up the sides to muscle fibre and flesh. The 95 also arrived carrying visible forefoot Air for the first time on a running shoe, two units rather than one at the heel.

Those gradient side panels are why every texture experiment Nike runs on this silhouette finishes in the same place. The Big Bubble program is a far narrower idea sitting on top of it. The name restores the larger heel window the 95 carried in its earliest production, which is why it points at the midsole and says nothing at all about the upper. Nike has since split that one correction into a shelf of separately badged versions, and this pair is the plain one, the Big Bubble with no suffix behind it.

What is actually on the shoe

The upper runs a gradient of browns in nubuck, dark at the toe and heel, sand through the middle panels, laid over a black mesh underlay. The lace loops are teal in a plush, almost towelled texture. The tongue label is the part worth looking at properly, because the air max script on it is embroidered in that same teal and it sits inside an oval of bright magenta. Turn the shoe over and the forefoot carries a translucent magenta window set into the tread, with teal rubber on either side of it. From the side the heel unit reads teal, and the small bubble at the very back of the heel stays clear.

Nike’s description covers the teal and stops there. The magenta on the tongue surround and underfoot is doing at least as much work, and anyone shopping from a product grid will register it before they read a single word of copy.

The brown is a season, not a one-off

Cacao Wow is not new to this silhouette. Nike listed the same color on the cow print Air Max 95 Big Bubble Premium arriving November 1 in women’s sizing, nine days ahead of this one. Two Air Max 95s inside the same ten days built on the same brown is a palette decision rather than a coincidence, and it says plainly where Nike thinks this shoe sells in November.

The point about the color code is narrower than it sounds. Nike’s four-color strings have never been a full inventory, and accents go unnamed all the time. What makes this pair worth stopping on is that the unnamed accent carries the most contrast on the whole shoe. The teal is a trim color doing trim work. The magenta is the thing that makes this pair photograph differently from the last four Big Bubbles to come through, and Nike’s own description steers attention away from it.

Where it lands against the rest of the line

Retail is $190, which is where the Big Bubble has settled. The Premium tier opened at $190 and the Chrome matched it, while the cow print Premium pushed to $200 on the strength of real calf hair on the panels. A standard Air Max 95 without the larger window sits well under all of that. So the money here buys the bigger Air unit and a nubuck upper rather than anything exotic, which is about what this program has charged since it stopped being a single corrective reissue.

Release details

The Nike Air Max 95 Big Bubble in Cacao Wow, Black, Infinite Sable and Tropical Teal releases November 10 under style code IX6347-200 at $190. Nike has it set up as a SNKRS launch with a one pair limit rather than a straight stock release, so plan on an entry window at SNKRS rather than a standing size run on nike.com.
