On and Burna Boy put the first footwear of their partnership on sale October 22, and the photograph that arrived with it does not isolate the artist. Nine other people stand around him in a living room, every one of them wearing the same red shoe. The Cloudmonster BB is the louder of the two styles in that campaign, a tonal limited edition built on On’s biggest cushioning platform, and it is also the shoe that answers a question the partnership had left open for more than a year.
The Cloudmonster is On’s cushioning flagship rather than its racing one. Everything the Swiss brand has built since starting in 2010 runs through CloudTec, the row of hollow rubber pods under the foot that collapse on impact and that nothing else in running resembles from across a parking lot. The Cloudmonster is where On stacks that geometry highest, a daily trainer meant for long and slow miles rather than race pace, and it has lasted long enough to reach a third generation. The current Cloudmonster 3 runs a triple-layer CloudTec arrangement, and the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper sits above it with Helion HF foam for anyone who wants the same bulk to move faster. On has also shown it will hand the platform to outsiders rather than guard it. The Cloudmonster 3 Mule built with FKA twigs in August was the first backless shoe the company had ever sold, and the pattern since has been to let partners reshape the max-cushion model while the race shoes stay untouched.

The Cloudmonster BB keeps that silhouette and takes everything else down to a single color. Upper, laces, midsole pods and outsole all arrive in the same saturated red, with a muted gold badge on the tongue carrying the On logo above the model name, and a tone-on-tone CLOUDMONSTER wordmark pressed along the midsole wall where a contrast logo would normally live. Even the outsole follows, a red rubber grid laid under red pods rather than the black or translucent slab almost every other trainer uses to hide wear. On lists the upper as polyester and the shoe as made in Vietnam. It also files the Cloudmonster BB under its active life category rather than running, which is an unusually honest piece of merchandising for a shoe that looks exactly like the trainer one aisle over. One small thing does not line up. On calls the color Sienna, a pigment that reads brown-red in a paint box, and the product photography shows something much closer to a clean primary red. Nothing about this shoe is subtle, including the distance between the name and the picture.

Which shoe this is matters more than how it looks. When On announced the partnership in September 2025, the stated starting point was tennis, built around the Clubhouse Nights events the brand had been running in New York, Miami and Paris. A year later the campaign lands with two shoes, and only one of them, THE ROGER Clubhouse BB, belongs to that story. The other is the most heavily cushioned trainer On makes. Read one way that is a brand hedging, putting its new cultural signing on the product that already sells. Read another way it is the sharper move. On’s tennis line already has Roger Federer attached to it and does not need a second famous name. The running side is where On remains a performance company with no cultural shorthand at all, and a group portrait in tonal red gets it one faster than another court shoe would have. The same instinct runs through the LOEWE work on the Cloudsolo, where the partner takes the lifestyle-shaped platform rather than the racing one.
The limited edition costs less than the shoe it is based on. On lists the Cloudmonster BB at $180, against $190 for the standard Cloudmonster 3 and $220 for the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper. Collaborations almost always run the other way, and this reads as deliberate rather than accidental, because a limited artist pair priced under the regular model is aimed at somebody who was never going to buy the running one. It has moved like it, too. Three days after launch, most of the US men’s size run on On’s own site already reads as out of stock, with single pairs left in a couple of the middle sizes and nothing at either end. For a shoe that was never positioned as a performance release, selling through the middle of the run first is the clearest signal available that the people buying it are buying the picture.

The Cloudmonster BB in Sienna is available now, released October 22 at On and Foot Locker, at $180, under SKU 3MG31246884. THE ROGER Clubhouse BB in White and Mars released the same day. On titled the campaign No Giant Stands Alone, Ronan McKenzie shot the stills and Bafic directed the films, and the group standing with Burna Boy in the photograph includes his sister Ronami, his mother Bose and his band The Outsiders.
