Rosé's Second PUMA Speedcat Cracks the Leather and Repeats Everything Else

PUMA put Rosé’s second Speedcat collection on sale October 8 in two colorways, an espresso brown and a deep burgundy, both filed under women’s. Set them next to the pair she released last year and the differences are narrow and specific. Two Speedcats again, the ROSIE wordmark again, laces wrapped around the upper again, a soft pastoral campaign again. The surface is what changed, and PUMA’s own announcement does not mention it.

The Speedcat was built as a motorsport shoe and PUMA still introduces it that way, a low-profile silhouette that came off the track well before it reached the street. Its second life has been considerably larger than its first. The brand now runs a dedicated Speedcat page carrying the OG in thirteen colorways plus eight more under women’s, several flagged as best sellers, alongside a Ballet version that swaps the racing last for something closer to a flat and a Wedge that puts the same toe box on a lift.

That makes the Speedcat the shoe PUMA reaches for when it wants a collaboration to move rather than to argue. Daniëlle Cathari was handed one in burgundy leather earlier this year. Rosé is now on her fourth. The silhouette has quietly taken over the job the Suede used to do for the brand, which is to be recognizable enough that a collaborator can change the materials and the colors and have the result read as theirs. It also sits on the right side of the low-profile swing that has run through the last two years of footwear, which is the part PUMA could not have engineered and has been happy to ride.

PUMA’s press release describes the uppers as nubuck leather with wrapped laces and custom tongue branding, and it leaves out the thing a photograph notices first. The leather is cracked. Across both colorways the upper carries a mottled, crazed finish, heaviest at the toe and around the Formstrip, the look of a shoe already creased by wear rather than one just out of a box. The product page, unlike the press release, says so outright and calls it a vintage look. Both sources are describing the same shoe, so this is an announcement that buried its own lead rather than a contradiction, but the distressing is the entire reason these two pairs look different from the eight women’s Speedcat OG colorways sitting beside them on the same site.

The lacing is the element carried straight over from last year. Rather than stopping at the top eyelet, the laces run around the midfoot and tie off against the side, finished with metal aglets. Both pairs ship with a small white accessory box holding a set of cream spare laces and cards carrying the ROSIE wordmark, and the product photography beds the shoe in crumpled cream tissue inside a window box. The Formstrip is tonal on both pairs, picked out in the same shade as the upper rather than contrast, and the aglets catch as metal against it. Underneath, the outsole stays flat and thin in the way the racing original was. The colorways are Haute Coffee-Espresso Brown and Burgundy-Aubergine.

Rosé has been a PUMA global ambassador since 2024, and her first full collection arrived in August 2025 on exactly this template: two Speedcats, a ROSIE graphic wordmark, lacing wrapped around the upper and a campaign shot against green pastoral backdrops. The 2026 return runs the same four elements. The campaign has moved from fields to flowers.

Repetition is not automatically a failure in a signature line. It is how a collaboration turns into a franchise instead of a season, and PUMA has been poorly served before by collaborators who rebuilt everything each time out. The risk here is the opposite one. A second collection that keeps the structure and changes the finish is asking the finish to carry the whole proposition, and a cracked leather treatment is a smaller idea than a new last or a new closure. The third collection is where this either becomes a signature or settles into a colorway program.

Both pairs are $120. The standard Speedcat OG sells for $100 on PUMA’s site and the Speedcat Ballet Metallic for $90, so the collaboration carries a premium of about a fifth over the base shoe. That is modest for a global music ambassador, and the extras come close to covering it on their own, since the spare laces and the ROSIE cards are physical goods in the box rather than a wordmark on a tongue. Neither colorway was discounted on release day, which is worth noting on a silhouette PUMA produces in this volume.

Both colorways are available now at us.puma.com, with PUMA naming its flagship stores and selected stockists as the rest of the release. The espresso is style code 411494 in Haute Coffee-Espresso Brown, the burgundy is 411495 in Burgundy-Aubergine, both are $120 and both are listed as women’s sneakers. PUMA has not announced a men’s size run for either.
