PUMA and Capcom have put Street Fighter on the Suede, and the interesting part is the arithmetic. Most game collaborations ship one hero shoe and a rack of T-shirts. This one ships three pairs, one each for Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li, with the character name molded into the outsole where you only see it when the shoe leaves the ground. Orders open October 9. Splitting a collaboration three ways instead of consolidating it says something about who PUMA thinks is buying.
The Suede is the right canvas for this, and the reason sits in its own origin. PUMA dates the shoe to 1968, when it launched as the CRACK ahead of the Mexico City Olympics. The name came from period slang for a highly skilled person, the best player on a team. Athletes wore it in Mexico, including Tommie Smith in a black and white pair during the podium ceremony, and PUMA built a new sole for it that also worked for basketball.
Then in 1971 the company signed Walt Frazier, who wanted a low-cut shoe and a different colorway for every game. Suede leather took dye more easily than smooth leather, which is why the material stuck and why the shoe eventually took its name from it. PUMA puts the count at more than 390 colors. The CRACK became the Clyde, then the States, then simply the Suede. A shoe engineered from the start to be recolored on demand is now being recolored for three fighting game characters, which is the silhouette doing the job it was built for.

Ryu takes Warm White with red and black marks scattered across the upper and a red Formstrip. Ken takes PUMA Red with a white Formstrip and a tan panel at the heel. Chun-Li goes royal blue, studded in gold across the quarter panel, sitting on a pale translucent outsole. All three run a contrast cord over the lacing, and all three ship with a spare set of laces in a second color.
PUMA ties each pair back to its fighter. Ryu gets his white gi, gloves and red headband. Ken gets the red gi, gloves and belt. Chun-Li gets a distressed metallic tongue alongside the gold studs. The upper is listed at 97 percent cow leather, so this is a real suede build rather than a printed synthetic wearing the name. The detail worth paying for is underfoot, where RYU, KEN and CHUN-LI are each molded into their own outsole, and the pairs ship in a printed box rather than a stock one.

PUMA has spent 2026 licensing characters. Transformers, Dora the Explorer, a Powerpuff Girls collection arriving October 1, and now Street Fighter. Read that list as a sneaker buyer and it looks scattershot. Read it as a licensing calendar and it looks like a brand that has decided its lifestyle business is an IP business.
Street Fighter is the sharpest fit of the group, because it is a game built on picking a character, and character selection is the one mechanic every player has an opinion about. Splitting the release three ways is not generosity, it is a merchandising decision that lets the customer pick a side and argue about it. The open question is whether a Suede collaboration can still register as an event. PUMA reaches for this silhouette whenever a partner wants in, and the Madhappy version and the Daniëlle Cathari pair both landed inside the same month.

At $120 a pair, the Street Fighter Suedes sit in the middle of PUMA’s own collaboration ladder. The plain Suede Classic is $90 on PUMA’s site right now, the CARROTS Suede is $105, and both the Madhappy Suede and the Whitaker Group’s Suede CODA “Echo Points” are $130. The Capcom license costs $30 over the blank and lands under the fashion partners, which is roughly where a mass character collaboration belongs. Three colorways at one price also means there is no scarcity story between them, which points at a general release rather than a raffle.
The PUMA x Street Fighter Suede releases October 9 in three colorways at $120 each, with orders opening the evening before at 9 PM PT on October 8. Style codes are 410647_01 for Ryu in Warm White, 410646_01 for Ken in PUMA Red, and 410648_01 for Chun-Li in Royal Extra. All three are loaded as Coming Soon at PUMA now: Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li. If the licensing is not the draw, the Suede Forever colorways arrive October 1.
