The adidas Powerphase Never Left, It Just Stopped Being a Yeezy

The adidas Powerphase in Footwear White, Power Green and Off White arrived in early June and has been sitting in stock ever since. Calling it a return, which is how most of the coverage framed it and how our own headline used to read, gets the story backwards. The Powerphase has been in steady rotation since January 2025. What actually changed is whose shoe it is.

adidas describes the Powerphase as a modern revival of its 1987 Fitness collection, and that line is worth attributing rather than stating flat, because every confirmation of the 1987 date traces back to adidas’ current marketing copy rather than to an archive or a catalog scan. No brand heritage post documents it. What the shoe plainly is: a low leather cupsole trainer from the aerobics era, closer in spirit to a Reebok Workout than to anything on a tennis court, despite Complex having filed it under tennis over the years. It is a simple build, and the simplicity is the point. The Powerphase has never carried cushioning technology worth marketing, which is exactly why it keeps coming back as a cheap canvas for other people’s ideas.

This colorway is white leather with a power green three-stripe and off-white accents on the midsole and heel tab. The name is worth pinning down, because retailers cannot agree: Overkill, Feature and Asphaltgold list it as Footwear White, while Extra Butter, Lapstone & Hammer and several release trackers call it Cloud White. Sneakersnstuff settles it by publishing adidas’ own color codes, FTWWHT, POWGRN and OWHITE. FTWWHT is Footwear White. One caution for anyone reading spec sheets: Feature’s product description for this shoe claims a mixed textile upper, breathable mesh and Y2K heritage. All three are wrong. The Powerphase is leather and it is a 1987 silhouette, as Extra Butter’s and Lapstone’s own copy correctly state.

The reason this shoe exists in 2026 at all runs through Kanye West, and the reason it is interesting now is that it no longer does. The Yeezy Powerphase Calabasas debuted on the Yeezy Season 5 runway in February 2017, dropped that March and was re-released by adidas on June 4, 2017. It was pointedly the cheapest adidas shoe he had put his name to, a plain leather trainer at a moment when the rest of the line was loaded with Boost. When adidas brought the model back as “Alumina” in January 2025, it did so with the Yeezy branding stripped out, as a standalone Originals shoe. Everything since, including this pair, has run under adidas’ own name. A silhouette that was a celebrity vehicle is now a general-release staple, which is a quieter outcome than a comeback and a more durable one.

Retail is $110, which is where adidas has held Powerphase pricing through the Alumina relaunch and the 2025 colorways that followed. International pricing runs £100 in the UK and €110 to €119 in Europe. For context, the 2017 Calabasas pair was $120, so the model is cheaper now in nominal terms than it was nine years ago, and the APB collaboration that landed on June 20 this year went out at $150. Discounting has already started on this pair. Asphaltgold has it at €87, down from €119, roughly 27 percent off about three months after release, with adidas’ own site down to a handful of sizes.

That discount is not an isolated markdown. adidas reported footwear revenue up just 1 percent on a currency-neutral basis in Q2 2026 while apparel grew 35 percent, and CEO Bjorn Gulden said the lifestyle footwear market, particularly for men, is under pressure from heavy retailer discounting, especially in Europe. adidas maintains that demand for its terrace models is healthy, pointing to fresh colorways and materials on the Samba, the Superstar and the Handball Spezial, the last of which turned up this summer in the Politics collaboration. Both things can be true, and a leather cupsole adjacent to that category going a quarter off within a season is a concrete illustration of what Gulden was describing.

The pair released in early June at $110, style code LA4359. Release trackers split between June 5 and June 6 and neither is a primary source, so the exact day is unsettled. adidas published no press release for it, and the adidas newsroom’s only Powerphase entries remain the 2017 Yeezy releases.
