The Stranger Things MB.06 Is the First Time LaMelo Ball's Line Has Borrowed Somebody Else's Monster

PUMA opens orders on the Stranger Things MB.06 on November 6, and the selling point is impossible to miss from across a room. A Demogorgon’s open mouth runs the length of the lateral side, petals splayed, cream teeth against a deep red throat, set into an upper textured like the thing’s hide. It is the most literal a licensed basketball shoe has been in a while, and the more interesting part is that it exists at all.

The MB line is PUMA’s volume play in basketball and the most consistent thing the brand has done since returning to the category. LaMelo Ball signed before he had finished a full NBA season, and PUMA has put out a new numbered model on a roughly annual cadence ever since, which is how the sixth shoe arrived in under five years. The 06 itself is a low, wide-platformed guard shoe, and PUMA’s spec sheet for it is unusually plain about intent: a responsive drop-in midsole meant to put the foot closer to the floor, side walls built up for lateral containment, and a high-abrasion tread. The brand also lists the upper at a minimum of thirty percent recycled content. None of that is new to this colorway. What is new is that PUMA has handed the shoe to a licensor, which the MB line has mostly avoided in favor of Ball’s own marks. The 06 has otherwise been colored out of Ball’s own vocabulary, from a gray pair named Hills that PUMA never bothered to explain to a graphic-heavy purple one built around a winged emblem. Handing that canvas to Netflix is a different kind of decision, and it is the first time the line has borrowed a story from outside Ball’s orbit rather than inventing one inside it.

PUMA calls the colorway Pale Plum and Purple Charcoal, and the purple does most of the work. The quarter panel is printed with a scaled, mottled texture that reads as hide rather than as a pattern, and the maw is built into it as a raised overlay rather than printed flat, so the teeth catch their own shadow. Laces, lining and tongue are all a hot coral that reads almost fluorescent against the purple, and Ball’s asterisk sits on the lateral forefoot in the same red. The medial side carries “BE YOU” in red script. “ONE OF ONE” runs along the heel and again around the outsole’s star motif, and “MELO” is set into the midsole sidewall. Underfoot the tread is a dark herringbone-adjacent pattern with the asterisk at the center. For a shoe carrying somebody else’s monster, PUMA kept a surprising amount of Ball’s own language on it.

PUMA MB.06

This site got part of this wrong three weeks ago and the correction is worth making plainly. Covering the Stranger Things LaFrancé RNR, we wrote that the collaboration had landed on Ball’s lifestyle line rather than on his signature basketball shoe. It landed on both. The RNR, a second LaFrancé and this MB.06 all open on November 6, and they share the Pale Plum base, so it is one pack rather than a lifestyle one-off. The timing argument stands, though. Netflix closed the series on December 31, 2025. A licensed collaboration arriving eleven months later is selling a memory rather than a moment, and a performance signature shoe is the hardest place to do that, because a player has to actually wear it. Ball is the rare signature athlete whose on-court choices nobody would call conservative, which is probably why PUMA thought it could put a monster on his shoe. Whether he plays in this pair is a separate question, and the answer on licensed basketball makeups is usually no. They sell to the people who watched the show, not to the rotation. That is not a knock on the shoe so much as a note about what the MB line is now doing with its sixth model, which is covering more shelf than court.

At $135 this is the most expensive MB.06 this site has logged. The Black/Gold ran $110, the Hills and the Shooting Star both listed at $130, and the LaFrancé RNR releasing the same day sits at $130. So the licensed basketball shoe is the only thing in the pack carrying a premium, and five dollars is a small enough number that it reads as a rounding decision rather than a strategy. The useful comparison is upward. Ball’s shoe is still well under what a first-tier signature costs elsewhere, and the MB line’s whole pitch since the MB.01 has been that a rookie-priced signature shoe can be a real one.
