SP5DER and adidas Raised the F50 Formotion While the First Pair Trades Under Retail

The SP5DER x adidas F50 Formotion in Metallic Silver has been out since July 1, and the market has had two months to answer it. The answer has been to trade below retail. StockX has the pair averaging around $160 against a $190 price across roughly 790 sales in the trailing three months. That is worth knowing this week in particular, because adidas and SP5DER put two more F50 Formotion colorways out on September 1 at $220.

SP5DER is the label founded by Jeffery Williams, the rapper who records as Young Thug, established in 2019 and built out into a full apparel brand before adidas got involved. The partnership’s first footwear release was the Superstar Supermodified, which adidas announced on February 24 and released globally on March 3. That was a court silhouette. The F50 Formotion is the first time the two moved onto a runner, which is how the sneaker press has framed it. adidas’ own claim is narrower and worth keeping straight: its release calls this the brands’ first head-to-toe football-inspired collection, not their first runner.

The F50 name comes from adidas football, a boot line associated with the ultralight Adizero era and with Lionel Messi. A sourcing note belongs here rather than a chronology. adidas keeps no brand-owned history page for the F50 and the line has no encyclopedia entry, so the detailed timeline that circulates through the sneaker press has no source this site is willing to stand behind, and it is left out instead of repeated.

The construction is where the previous version of this page went wrong. It said the shoe pairs a sole unit associated with the Ozweego with an upper drawn from the F50 boot. adidas’ own press release for the collaboration names the sole as Formotion tooling, described as originally designed for running applications, sitting under an upper inspired by the Adizero F50 III football cleat. Ozweego does not appear anywhere in adidas’ material, and Formotion is a separate adidas technology with its own products. That attribution traces to one outlet and is contradicted both by adidas and by the other outlet covering the release.

The colorway needs the same treatment. Style code KZ6575 runs a silver metallic body against core black, with retailer listings mirroring adidas’ product feed giving the string as Silver Metallic, Core Black and a supplier colour. This page previously described a reflective finish running toe to heel. Nothing supports “reflective” as a material property on this shoe. What sources describe is a metallic chrome sheen, and the outlet closest to the release places the chrome at the heels rather than across the whole upper. Those are two different claims and only one of them is documented. Worth separating too: adidas’ press release describes a silver zig zag mesh upper with leather overlays and pink accents, but those pink accents belong to KZ6578, a different colorway in the same collection.

The read two months on is that moving onto a runner did not move the market. A partnership’s first outing on a new silhouette usually carries a premium for a stretch, and buyers usually give it one. This one gave its premium back inside a few weeks and has stayed under retail since. That matters more than it looks, because it is the clearest signal available on whether the SP5DER audience follows the label onto adidas footwear or was only ever there for the apparel.

Retail was $190. The follow-up pack that landed September 1, KZ6578 in red and pink patent and KZ6581 in neon green, went out at $220. Raising the price $30 on a second wave while the debut colorway trades near $160 is a decision worth watching over the next quarter. Resale numbers are platform data rather than official figures, so the direction is the useful part rather than any single decimal, and the direction has been consistent since July.
